RS-232 Cabling

• Minimum requirement for creating the RS-232 data link is 3-wire connection. When only hardware flow control is required, the 5-wire connection is needed. The following signals are in use in 5-wire connection:

• RX = Receive Data

• TX = Transmit Data

• RTS = Request To Send (output)

• CTS = Clear To Send (input)

• GND = Signal Ground

• The maximum length of the cable is 3 m

• The following picture is an example of a connection that has been designed only between Epec display unit and PC with 3-wire connection.
